Bluffscapes Front Yard Garden Contest
By Valerie Bibb
In partnership with the Birchcliff Garden Club, the Scarborough Bluffs Community Association (SBCA) presented a “Fun and Friendly” Front Yard Garden Contest. The contest was open to all residents of Birchcliff, Cliffside, and Cliffcrest and showcased beautiful front gardens that were roadside visible.
The SBCA encouraged the community to beautify their own little pieces of our neighbourhood. This wonderful opportunity allowed participants to showcase their front gardens and all the hard work they put in while keeping themselves busy during the pandemic lockdown.
Judges consisted of members of the Birchcliff Garden Club and the Scarborough Bluffs Community Association. Judging took place in early September and the submitted garden entries were simply green or a plethora of magical colours! You didn’t need to be an expert to enter – all levels of experience were welcomed.
The SBCA and the Birchcliff Garden Club are delighted to announce this year’s 2020 Winners!
First place: Rhonda Kosowan of 101 South Edgely Ave.
Second Place: Felicity and Alan Somerset of 26 Springbank Road
Third Place: Donald Simerson of 56 North Bonnington Ave
“I am proud of my front garden and tend to it regularly because I enjoy people walking by to admire it and see what is new that is blooming. During this pandemic time I have met a lot of new neighbours who are making a point of coming by on their walks,” says Rhonda Kosowan on finding out she was the first place winner!
The SBCA would like to thank ALL of the participants who entered gardens in the contest. Without your participation we would not be able to bring our community together to celebrate our own little pocket of the City. We are proud to be able to offer these events in Southwest Scarborough and look forward to hosting more when we are able to come together again.
The SBCA and the Birchcliff Garden Club would like to give a shout-out and thank our prize sponsors for continuing to support our community events – Canadiana Flowers, Bibbcon Landscape Construction Inc., and the Birchcliff Garden Club.
