August2018 Scarborough Ribfest

Scarborough Ribfest Runs Aug. 3 to Aug. 6

by Melinda Dix

Scarborough Ribfest is a great opportunity to sink your teeth into a pile of award winning ribs, pulled pork, barbequed chicken and more. Approximately 40,000 pounds of ribs are served each year at this weekend long event.

This year, 10 award winning professional Ribber teams from across Canada and the U.S.  as well as delicious vegetarian items are on the menu. And don’t forget the decadent blooming deep-fried onions with chipotle sauce, piping hot French fries and slow roasted corn.

Many vendor booths will offer creative crafts from henna tattoos to hot sauce and other products. The midway is always lots of fun with rides, caricature artists, and for those hoping to win a prize, there were many skill testing games.

The Scarborough Museum will be  staffed by people in period costume, demonstrating rural life of early settlers in the 19th century. Organized by the Rotary Club of Scarborough, it is their mandate that money raised at Ribfest is used to help the community as well as people around the world.  In addition to Scarborough Ribfest, The Rotary Club of Scarborough’s community involvement reaches out to Food Bank Drives, Family assistance at Christmas, Scarborough Community Renewal Organization (SCRO), Scholarships for High School students, Youth Leadership and Citizenship programs among many other initiatives. To learn more about the Rotary Club of Scarborough, please visit their website at http://rotaryclubscarborough.com or you can find them on Facebook.

There is no cost of admission for Scarborough Ribfest. They simply request a $2.00 donation which goes toward helping Scarborough. Combine that with free entertainment, free parking and you’ve got a wonderful, family friendly celebration that provides great memories of summertime in Scarborough!

This annual celebration of food, fun and entertainment always takes place over the long weekend in August at Thomson Memorial Park which is located at 1005 Brimley Road (Brimley and Lawrence Avenue), Scarborough.  For more information about Scarborough Ribfest, you can visit their website at http://scarboroughribfest.com
